Genesis Computer Service customers have lots of buying questions, and every one of them gives are qualified customer representatives an opportunity to show why we're the Blackland area's best computer store. We've listed the most often asked questions below. If you don't find your question here, stop by and the friendly Genesis Computer Service staff will be happy to assist.
Answers to some of the most common Genesis Computer Service shopping questions:
Why shouldn't I buy one of those cheaper systems, aren't they the same as yours?
You can get a less expensive system, but the oldest buying adage applies, "You get what you pay for!" Most of our competitors, including the national name brands (like Gateway, Dell, Compaq, Acer, AST, Sony, Packard Bell and HP), use proprietary integrated components. What this means is very cheap costs and high profit margins, restricted upgrade paths, limited sources and expensive repairs.
Consider this, you buy Brand X, but you soon discover that the video card, which is built into your motherboard and shares RAM with your memory, isn't advanced enough to play your favorite Mech Warrior game. You decide to buy a Voodoo 4500 only to discover that the on-board video card can't be disabled and won't allow your $225.00 investment to operate. Or let's say the sound card breaks - same thing, even though the sound doesn't work, the system still sees the built-in components and doesn't allow your new Sound Blaster Live! to replace it. Then let's say you need to add a second network card, you're out of expansion slots because the motherboard maker didn't think you'd ever need any because all the options are built-in!
At Genesis Computer Service we use descrete modules to ensure you the greatest flexibility. We also use the best off-the-shelf assemblies to ensure you the greatest reliability and compatibility. Although Genesis Computer Service is your best source for systems, parts, service and advice, you can seek out our competitor and be assured that even their cheapest parts will most likely work in your Genesis Computer Service system. And finally, we don't use factory seconds, refurbished components or "pulls", all of our parts are new.
Why do you advertise "Custom Built", then have a price sheet?
We hand build every system that you buy, to your specifications. The Genesis Computer Service price sheet represents a typical system. Genesis Computer Service customer representatives will assist you to add or subtract from that guideline to satisfy your specific needs. The price sheet gives you an estimate of what your personal system investment will be. The Genesis Computer Service customer representitive will then give you a specific quote once all of your desires are itemized.
Many dealers offer on-site service, why don't you?
When you read the very fine print, you'll discover that on-site service is available only to qualified customers. Most companies subcontract for on-site service. As such, there are very few zones of coverage. Even though we don't live in anyone's zone, you still pay a premium for the service. Like insurance, you're paying for everyone else. Additionally, repairs can often take weeks because you have to call a support number, wait for the part to arrive, schedule the technician to come out, hope that it's the right part, or start the whole process all over. Genesis Computer Service offers an on-site warranty, but it is an optional cost.
What is an in-store credit?
Simply put, it's a gimmick used by our competitors to make money. When you make a purchase at their store, it's permanent. While Genesis Computer Service offers money back refunds, our competitors offer in-store credits. Check their policy carefully, most of those credits are only good for 30 days.
Let's say you buy a Competitor SE computer system and it's a lemon. Now you have $1,000.00 in-store credit, so they sell you their recommended mid-line $1,700.00 system; it's unreliable, too. Now you have a $1,700.00 in-store credit, but you're very concerned about Competitor SE's product quality and don't want to try the $2,350.00 premium deal. Dilemma, how do you spend the $1,700.00 and still get a quality Genesis Computer Service system; all within 30 days?
What are these books and disks for?
During most hardware and software installations, you must install drivers or input a unique activiation code that is licensed to you. Without manuals, disks and a Certificate of Authenticity (or similar document), Genesis Computer Service won't install hardware or load any software onto your system. The dealer should give you a disk and manual for the installed hardware, operating system and productivity software that you paid for. If they don't, ask!
Ask others about their experience with customer service?
While the owners of Genesis Computer Service strive for 100% customer satisfaction, we know that it's not possible. Realistically we know that there will always be one or two folks that aren't going to be satisfied, no matter what you do for them; but we still greet them with a smile and welcome handshake. To our credit, we are the area's only Better Business Bureau member in good standing. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority; that sounds a bit cliche', but without repeat customers and positive word of mouth advertising, we'd be just like our competitiors - headed out of business.
What's my total cost!?
Financing costs! You spend nearly twice the value of the system when you finance. You are entitled to a full disclosure of the total cost when you use a financed option. Compare that figure to the advertised price and to the expected resell value; it may be wiser to save a little cash before making a financed purchase.
Why shouldn't I buy that $400.00 system ISP advertises?
Honestly, see the first question. Then add this, you are locked into a service for as long as four years! Then if they change the terms of service, you are still locked in! There's no such thing as free - it's a low end, disposible system with limited upgrade capability. Then you have to worry about service and reliability. And what if there's not a local number for your area? What if you relocate?
What processor should I buy?
When deciding on a processor, think about what your application and budget restraints are. The AMD is an inexpensive solution with good business applications, but superior gaming characteristics. The Intel Pentium processor is the better business processor, but generally costs considerably more than its AMD counterpart. The Celeron is a good compromise for the Pentium if your budget is limited and you still want a quality Genesis Computer Service system that you can truly upgrade.
Regardless of your needs or where you make your purchase, your upgrade options are determined by the type of processor you choose. Genesis Computer Service engineers, however, have designed several entry level systems that can truly be upgraded to the most advanced systems we offer. Let our customer representatives show you the real meaning of upgrade.
Check out the comparison page. . .in general, more is better. Our best advice is to ask a Genesis Computer Service customer representative to assist in matching up your requirements to a system configuration.
Is the aafes.com brand any good?
Genesis Computer Service hasn't serviced a satisfied aafes.com computer system customer yet. . .either for reliability or value; especially value!
Can't you buy from pricewatch.com? How about online auctions?
pricewatch.com is like Consumer's Digest, they show what things should be selling for - if you qualify for wholesale pricing (usually you have to have a reseller's permit). Often, you have to further qualify with quantity and repeat purchase criteria. Our Genesis Computer Service purchasing agent uses pricewatch.com, and others, to gauge what our vendors sell to us at to help ensure that our valued customers are getting the best deals possible.
While some of the vendors will sell to individuals, we have heard more tales of woe than one can count on all your fingers and toes. Generally speaking, customer service is non-existent and all sales are final. Our customers report similar stories with online auctions.
Genesis Computer Service is a place, and a face, you can visit and be quaranteed 100% customer satification!
